Thanks for advice. I have found the piece shown number 4 that holds the is broken around where cable enters and that is the problem. Going to try and get replacement.
My tip rather than peel back the carpet to the the upper box shelf, open the roof then use a stanley knife and cut the careturn. It is a much neater repair.

I had the same problem and I have solved it Removing the two pulleys Pick up the cable with the help of the UN tutorial I found on YouTube.
Following the tutorial is very easy to disassemble and assemble. Save me € 500.
It's really easy to fix the problem with that tutorial.
It is not necessary to buy the pieces 8h0863491. In most cases it is repairable.

Hi I know this is an old thread....but how did the fixes hold out. Think I have same issue on a 08 cab . I'm actually wondering if i can pay someone to help me sort This? I've been advised another option is to just cut the cable and let box permanently be dropped.

On mine all the parts in one of the side sections had disintegrated. There was no fixing it so I just removed all the broken bits. Mine is permanently dropped but I can manually push it up and use a couple of bits of wood to keep it there if i need the boot space. Mine's a 2002 though so it's not worth throwing any money at.

My repair has held out well. Still no further problems. I think its either a diy job or not at all as its just not worth throwing the money at it.
