    Hi All,

woke up this morning to find a cracked rear bumper on my B6 (above the number plate and close to Boot lid). It was parked on the road outside and some one must have hit it while parking/reversing. Now i am left with the bill.

The damage is not too big but has cracked the paint and a bit of the bumper under it. I am hoping it would'nt come to a bumper replacement.

Can anyone suggest a good repair shop in Berkshire? Anyone got experience with Chipsaway in Reading or Maidenhead?

    Thanks
    WH

I hate to say this, but the crack might need to be checked as the damage might be more serious that you realise. If it looks minor, there might be further damage that you can't see compromising the safety of your bumper.

Were there any paint marks - if so - check your neighbours cars for the matching paint on their car - a long shot, but you never know.

Thanks James but the crack doesnt look too big and is on the upper side of the bumper (on the boot sill actually), so i doubt that it would have caused further damage.

Any way i will be getting couple of quote and will keep you posted.

Hi wh431. I would consider getting a second hand bumper if I was you.( Usually some on e-bay.) That way you can get it sprayed to match without touching your car. When it's ready you swap them over. I like this option because it's far less hassle. The car is out of use for half a day at the most.

How did you get on with this, as someone has just done the say thing to my bumper

I've been to chipsaway, and they want £150.

I was thinking about getting a new or secondhand bumper, as removal doesn't look too difficult, but the complication is factory fit parking sensors, so not sure how to remove these without damaging them.

    Hi Mhurer,

i ended up going to Chipsaway (Reading) in the end and got the whole bumper resprayed. Just getting the damaged area resprayed would have costed me 170 ish but i wanted to get rid of some other small scratches at the same time, so went for whole 9 yards.

It costed me 287£ (inc VAT), which i know is a bit pricey but the Chipsaway guys did an excellent job.

I also considered getting a 2nd hand bumper and getting it resprayed but for this you will have to consider:
    1. Cost of replacement Bumper (+Clips etc)
    2. Labour cost of Bumper removal and Installation of new Bumper.
    3. Respray of the replacement bumper (incase you get the exact colour match or the condition of your 2nd hand bumper isnt too good)
    4. + other complications like Parking sensors etc..
Car looks as good as new now but i wish i could find the Idiot who did the damage to hand over the bill .

    Good Luck
    WH

Just had a parking scuff *cough* repaired on my rear bumper, which had damaged both the painted part and the grey plastic under part. Cost was £300 done by a local body shop/back street abortionist. Now looks as new apart from loss of the texture on the grey bit.

    Thanks for the replies.

Will probably go with the cheaper chipsaway option, given that the rear bumper is likely to see more damage by other idiots I don't see the point of replacing the whole part.

Just for the record. My Silver Falcon was reversed into by a "white van man" at work, big car park only my car in area, the bell end driver hit bumper, luckily my mrs saw him do it from window, suspect he would gone if i had not. cracked bumper inside the recess of number plate and chrome trim, so contacted his company, who surprise surprise didnt want to go through insurance. i insisted on new bumper (it was perfect before and i wanted it like as!) got three quotes, new bumper, trim, paint and labour.
least £645, £725 and £780. company tried the "get it done and we will send you cheque!" yeah right!. so i insisted you send cheque to agreed repair firm, wait to clear, then job done. took three phone calls to get to send cheque, so imagine! good as new!
    Power is nothing without Control!
