A Question for anyone in the industry. When a car goes into a dealership to undergo warranty work, who pays for what?

I assume the standard warranty will cover parts and labour, but what if the car has a fault that requires, say a few hours of test driving or stripping down to find the fault?

Now then who pays for that initial time? The warranty or the dealership?

I ask this question has I have a faulty car that the dealership are happy to replace parts but less keen to drive the car on extended test drives, which it needs to bring on the fault and therefore correctly diagnose it.

Have my dealership given up because there's no money in it for them. I hope not...... But that's what it feels like.

Hi There is a repair operation list, which VAG have composed.Every job has been given a certain amount of time in periods,VAG pays the dealer for this and any parts which are used to carry out the job.The time given to do the jobs are calculated to a minimum,I would say that 90% of the warranty work carried out by the dealer is at a loss, considering if the mechanic could be working on another well paying job. There is no payment for fault finding, except when usuing diagnostic equipment and the time used, can be documented by a diagnose protocol. In reply to your question it is the workshops reponsibility to find the fault.Often in cases similar to yours, with the customers consent, we would get one of the mechanics to use the vehicle, for a few days,to see if the fault occurs.Which often helps to diagnose the problem

the dealer will swallow the cost
they should have a tester for this purpose ha ha ha
most dealers are too tight to pay for a non productive to test cars
but customer care can liase with warranty/dealer to get there in the end
