if so these cars were designed to run on leaded fuel you need to run on super unleaded or reset timing

my car has always run on leaded fuel.here in south africa there are 2 types of fuel.lrp(lead replacement fuel) and unleaded.i now use lrp.u think it might have something to do with the the ignition distributor setting in terms of the number of degrees Before Top Dead Center (BTDC) or After Top Dead Center (ATDC)?

Hi I think your timing is out.Although there are sometimes ,it can happen that a combination of 2 things that can cause pinking, even though the timing is correct, and that is,a high ambient temperature and poor quality fuel. However if you mean the engine will not stop when you turn off the ignition?that is a different matter

it can't be the poor fuel because it never used to pink like this before while i was using the same fuel.i will get the timing checked and the dizzy timing and BTDC etc set.thanks

What spark plugs are you using? Another thing is your fuel filter might be dirty.
