My MFD / dashboard instrument cluster shows AIRBAG FAULT whilst VAGCOM reports the following:

    Address 15: Airbags
    Controller: 6Q0 909 605 B
    Component: 05 AIRBAG VW5 0003
    Coding: 12341
    Shop #: WSC 00028
    1 Fault Found:
    00588 - Airbag Igniter: Driver Side (N95)
    32-10 - Resistance too High - Intermittent

Does this suggest simply (hopefully) a poor wiring connection to any of (i) the airbag within the steering (ii) the crash sensor under the driver's seat cross member or (iii) the airbag control unit J234 by the bulkhead on the right of the accelerator.

Or maybe it suggests a faulty crash sensor or airbag controller unit.

Or maybe it suggests that I should GSI (get Someone In) because it is none of the above and it is very complicated?

Hi The fault is intermittent, which means there is a faulty connection, comes sometimes after adjusting the height of the steering wheel. It could be the coil connector with slip ring (F138) which is defective. Delate the fault, and enter measured block values for the airbag, channel 001 and in zone 1 you can read the value for the igniter, you can at the same time put the steering wheel in different positions to see if the value changes

    Kenney, Thank you.

I will check the connections I mentioned (under the driver's seat, inside the steering wheel and at the airbag controller/CPU behind the bulkhead by the accelerator).

Last night I ran the VAGCOM airbag measuring blocks I got Correct or Not Installed for Groups 3 and 5 which includes Driver's Side A/B Igniter and Voltage Supply Correct. However, for Group 1 Driver's Air Bag the reading was Too High.(Colours are as shown per the VAGCOM screen).

I also moved the steering wheel which did not cause any change in the dynamic measuring blocks.

I deleted the fault code and it appeared again as I re-ran VAGCOM.

Looking at the EKTA parts list (and on ErWin) I see Airbag kits, installation kits and airbags but I cannot see any parts specifically described as "coil connector with spring kit (F138)" although I have seen passing referenecs to the latter on the US forum (?) VWVortex. I guess, but I do not know, that the coil connector and spring kit are inside the steering wheel ?

Any additional steer would be much appreciated.

    Thank you
    Kevin

I need the year and model Depending on the model, the airbag coil connector and return spring with slip ring -F 138- is part of the steering column switch.

It's such a common fault you will find the part being sold on e-bay. The seller can probably tell you what you need.
