Apologies if everyone else has already seen this, and I don't want to steal stuarts thunder re: new VWs on the front page, but:

(From this months Top Gear mag)

300bhp, V6 3.6 litre FSI. 0-62 in 5.6 for the saloon, 5.8 for the estate.

That is one hell of a quick stock Passat. And I think not a bad looking one either. Looks pretty subtle to me..

It is subtle but as clarkson said on TG when you think of a super fast saloon car the last two words you're likely to come up with are "Volkswagen" and "Passat". Quite a sleeper though.
Jason - Rather mad Skoda Fabia driver.... Odd whiff of diesel coming from him.

Yeah - 'tis the sleeper aspect I like. Especially in estate form. I keep an old straw hat sitting on the parcel shelf of my car to make potential break-and-enter theives and those driving behind think I'm an octogenarian with a car full of old string and tartan blankets. I used to have a hyundai accent, the original old man mobile, and bought a flat cap which I referred to as my 'driving hat' and which I would only wear whilst on a spirited drive through the countryside. I really hope that at least one of the occasional quicker-than-you BMWs that plague the south east went home with the impression that they had been following the fastest grandad in the world!

With that train of thought, what about the S4 Avant 4.2 V8 at 344 PS, or the RS4 Avant 4.2 V8 at 420 PS, or the S6 and S8 with the V10 Lamborghini donkey under the bonnet???

    Or even a second hand RS6 Avant . . .

A Vauxhall Vectra GSI is better than a Dagenham dustbin!

Had "they" applied this to the B5/.5 Passat I'd have bought one. The styling on the newer model really grates on me at the moment.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.
