    Hi All

I have a '97 A4 Avant - when car starts I get a flashing display under the mileage display. It either displays "In 1" or " In 2" it lasts about 15 / 20 Seconds before changing back to trip counter - Milometer.

Do any of you Audi heads have any idea what this means ?

    Many thanks

    Regards

    Ian - In France

    Ian,

    Welcome aboard.

Without trying to doubt you, does it say INSP 1 and INSP 2 rather than IN 1 and IN 2

If it does, it either needs a service or the light resetting if it's recently had a service.

Ah, I thought the mileometer was just being slow about showing the mileage when it said that! Doh.

Hi am a newbee - just a quickie to say I get a similar issue - " Ini " or " In 1 " on the display on initial startup. Flashes for about 20 secs then goes to mileage - can anyone be a bit more informative? Nothing stated in hand book etc which is annoying or Haynes manual.

Is it definately in need of an inspection

    Cheers

As mentioned above, it means that your car is due a service. It can be reset without going to the dealer, but I would suggest that you either take it to a garage, or do a service youself - after all, it is there for a reason The MINIMUM thing I would do would be to change the oil and filter.

I don't know the reset procedure for all years, but on a 98 it is:

    1. PUSH in the odometer button (HOLD it pushed in) and instert your key into the ignition - turning it to the first position (DON'T start your car)

    2. The odometer dispay should now show - Oil or Service

    3. Let go of the odometer button and PULL the clock/dimmer button

    4. Repeat these actions to reset both service lights

    5. Take the keys out of the ignition and next time you re-insert them, the lights should have gone

If you're not sure what you are doing, best to leave it alone, and also this may null any warranty you have on your car.

    Good luck
If the shoe fits, get another just like it.......

    Cheers Gary,

Will do as you suggest - like you say it is probably worth a check up and it is about due.

Can you explain the difference between Inspection 1 or 2 ? guess it needs a more extensive check up.

    Thanks again,

Don't tell peeps to reset the service warning - if they havn't had a service!!!!!!

In 1 means it's due an "Inspection 1" type of service, usually a minor or small service.

In 2 means it's due an "Inspection 2" type of service. This a major or big (read expensive!) service. Would probably include a Brake Fluid Change, Multitronic fluid change, timing belt inspection, spark plugs, air filter, etc.
