the drivers window on my 96 saloon starts to close, then, as if it is hitting an obstruction, it stops and opens again as if it is hitting an obstrucrion. If I tug and jiggle it whilst it closes, I can (eventually) get it to close to about 1" from fully closed....having scanned the forum this does not appear to be a regular problem, but the passanger window has never worked, although I can detect a tiny clicking noise if I try to open it!!

    Help please someone

    thanx, martin

Sounds like sticky runners. Try a bit of lube in the channels the glass runs in,WD40 etc. Should loosen it up nicely

Hi! I whaked in a gd rip of wd then opened it fully for the first time.... and it got stuck, then a bit of a crunchiung thud .. I pressed close..up it went, stopping twice before closing all the way - thank goodness. I ha a tentative stab at opening again, but nothing - i'll try again when it's warmer!!

    thanks for your help

oh the drivers door inside opener failed about a week ago. I opened the window and used the outside handle and after that it was fine again....could this be connected...so to speak...do you think?

my 2003 a4 1.9tdi drivers window had same thing.
garage said it was the cable in the mechanism had frayed, so it was catching when trying to open/close the window.
apparently new mechanism unit part £72+couple of hours labour.
(Still need to get it done...long pockets+short arms!).
