as the a4 headlights are absolute rubbish i was considering upgrading to the halfords extreme brilliance bulbs which i think are xenon ones

i know that HIDS are the way forward although are these bulbs any good and will they make night driving less dangerous (at the moment it really isnt safe!) as I dont really want to shell out for HIDS at the moment

Don't know about the Halfords bulbs but these ones are proving quite popular as you can see by my thread:

It put the Halfords 90% brighter in my Octavia 1 to replace the blue tinged ones already in there, the difference was quite marked and next I am going to relay the dipped beam circuit under the dash to reduce voltage drop, that way I will have adequate lights without breaking the law.

I changed my bulbs to Halfords xenon about a year ago, was a transformation initially - I could see the road!! Things have been getting dimmer and dimmer and really quite dangerous recently, so have now gone for Philips X-treme Power bulbs from powerbulbs.com as sugested elsewhere on this forum .

Just changed them tonight, the Halfords ones had gone quite black. Hoping to be able to see the road again (not asking too much really is it?)

PS, got a pair of blue vision side light bulbs for free.

I bought a pair of the Halford SuperBrilliance bulbs. After 8 months one has gone already. I went back to Halfords to replace with the same, just to get matching headlamp output. However, I can now see that the newer bulb is much brighter than the original. I'm not convinced by their quality.

I can at least see the road again with the new Philips bulbs, just hope they don't go the same way!! Is it the design of the headlamp that caused them to go back or the quality of the bulbs??

Have thought about HIDS option (think thats correct?), but didn't go that route due to insurance worries - would they see it as ok or a modification?

They are the same wattage (H7-55W) and are a straight swap, just much brighter/better/safer than standard
