gear ratios?

right then this is one for i guess anyone that has a 5 speed pd engined tdi
just read that the 5 speed box is a higher ratio in 5th than the 6 speed box is in 6th!
whats the point what were vw thinking off
so can anyone tell me what there car reves at say 60 70 and 80mpg in 5th
would just be interesting to see what the difference is on my 6 speed

If you know any one of those speeds, you can work out the other two easily enough as it is proportional

e.g. If 60mph = 2000rpm then 70mph = 2333rpm (70/60 x 2000)

Its just over 2000 in 5 th at 60 mph, makes it perfect for the motorway giving 60+ mpg but still loads of torque for overtaking.

Got a 6 speed box Passat tdi 130 sport, 6th gear at 60 gives 1900 rpm.

yes thats what mine does i was asking as someone on here posted that the 5 speed box was a higher ratio (ie lower reves) than the 6 speed is in top
