Just paid 500 Quid for a 1996 1.8t avant to get about as the gearbox on my tdi has just exploded!!

It has high pressure in the crank case but runs ok .

Ive heard that you can get a modified breather kit ? is that true and would this solve the problem or is it something worse ??

If there is high pressure in the system then no breather mod will help. What are the symptoms, blowing oil into the intake?

That’s normal but they do sludge up inside, removing the cam cover and flushing it out as well as the sump (big job) is a very much recommended job.
