    Hi
I have a mk4 golf gt tdi 130 bhp purchase new june 2002 extras include climate control, sunroof, parking sensor and leather seats
at the begining of november i noticed when starting the car inth morning that the odometer was showing dEF.
i asked the garage what it ment when i put the car in for a dropped passanger window they said it was to do with the air con defrosting
i find it does it most morning and most evenings but not always in the day
i have tried searching the net for an answer but not found an answer as to what this means

That means the panel has an internal memory fault and needs repairing or replacing.

    Hi
    thanks for that
would the garage have been able to detect it by plugging there computer in.
this sounds like a lot of money? i take it this means replacing the instrument cluster.
is this likely to effect the running of the car at some point?

If it would communicate, it should come up as code 65535 or 00003, control unit fault or internal memory fault.

I can’t see it causing a running problem but it may not show a warning when required such as oil pressure or overheating. A new panel from VW is about £230 plus installation and coding.
