    Evening all

Our 06 plate Touran develops a fair amount of condensation when left. I recently opened the rear passenger side underfloor storage unit, and found the carpet was saturated.

Has anyone else come across this - and any ideas about what the cause would be? Also, should this be covered by the warranty?

    Cheers!

    Lars

Modern cars don't get condensation but they do (very seldom) have leaks. I'd suggest you start looking around the rear passenger door area to cure that leak you have.

Thanks to you both. I thought I'd let you know that it went into the garage and was fixed under warranty. They found that 2 bolts weren't tightened in the rear door, and this caused the pool of water.

Actually, it wasn't quite that simple. The car went back to the dealer another time; they found nothing and suggested that it was something to do with the way we parked the car. I wrote to VW who got the dealer to look at the car properly.
They spent 30 hours (over 10 days) water testing and found that there was a hole in the drain from the windscreen. We've had the car back a few days now (and had heavy rain since it's come back) and this appears to have sorted the problem.

    Hi All,

Just reading back through this post does anyone remember the fix? I have just bought a 58 plate Touran and it has the same suspicious leak in the rear passenger storage compartment.

Any help would be appreciated? I’m guessing it’s a block drain somewhere but would help if someone knows exactly where the fault lies?

    Thanks in advance chaps!

Unsure if that original fix would be replicated but worth checking.

More often generally they do leak at the front via the heater box entrance if they have become clogged with leaves. First lift front passenger mat and squeeze the under carpet to see if that's wet too? It doesn't show easily, but if it is that will overflow into the rear if not fixed.

The scource, lift the bonnet and with a torch check the void on each side right back where the wing meets the windscreen, you should by able to see a hole in the base of each side that takes the windscreen water down and out through the wheel wells. They get blocked with "compost" from leaves etc, then water level rises and enters the cabin.
Above the front passenger's toes is the service entrance to the cabin air filter, you can remove that to check it too.
