It sounds simple but I have not been able to find a solution yet. I have a spreadsheet which I have been just adding friends and contacts other the years and now feel I need to automate.

Is there anyway of transferring 1400 contact directly to a database without entering 1 by 1. I have been searching on the net for the last few days and have not been able to find anything.

    Thanks for any help!

    Go nuts!

Let me add more to this - the above is for 2007, most don't use it because the layout sucks

Depending on what version of Excel/Access/DB program you have, there's an option within Excel (whatever you use) to save the data as a DBF file.

Then you open it in your favourite database app and off you go.

    I use 2k3 too.

What, if any, error messages are you getting? I'll give it a go a bit later on and see if I can make it work

Wouldn't it be better to use a proper contact management tool? Something like the contacts section of Outlook / Thunderbird.

You could then just export your excel sheet to a .csv file, and import that into your contact manager.

I keep all mine in my palpilot, which replicates with my PC, so I have the info on me, and backed up on my PC.

If you do want to import it into access, then a simple File-Get External Data-Import should be able to read it directly from Excel and put it into a new table.

If you have problems getting it into access, I'll offer to import it for you, although I'm only using access2000

Nick makes a good point there.

Exporting it as a CSV and then importing into Thunderbird/etc would be a much easier method
