My A6, which has covered 108,000 miles with full history, has the 5 speed tiptronic gearbox fitted. Most of the time the gearbox appears to function acceptably smoothly, however sometimes when approaching a junction it seems to be jerky as it changes down. Additionally (only once) I've felt a vibration when under medium load climbing a slight incline.

Am I experiencing the symptoms of a potential failure, or is this simply a characteristic of the gearbox, as fitted to this model ?.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

When was the fluid and filter last changed? I had mine done at around that mileage and it made a worthwhile improvement to the 'drive quality'.

    Many thanks for your response.

The transmission oil was changed fairly recently, but might do this again just in case (it's cheaper than a new gearbox !!).

    Thanks again Snapdragon !.

Do you know the VAG specification code for the oil ?; I guess the Esso product is just one from the list ?.

Also, connected to this, is there a list of VAG engine oil specifications (i.e. 500.0 , 505.0 etc) and what they all mean ??!.

The VW part number for the ATF is on this page I think (VW G 052 162) - ESSO own Comma and they sell it in retail bottles now...
