This thread https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=51896 discussed the result of jump starting with leads. If I were you I would get a new battery (in a different car) and then fit it to your car.

I don't think you can jump start diesels easily either due to the glow plugs and electric fuel pump...

Radio code is a dealer only thing but there are members on here who can get the code if you E-mail them your serial number on the radio...

Top tip from tech staff at a lead acid battery manufacturer (passed on to me when I started working there). Your battery supplier will probably tell you the battery is fully charged. It won't be, because it's been standing around since it was made. If you want to give it maximum life and starting power, put it on charge for at least 4 hours before you use it. Unless it's a sealed maintenance free battery, it will bubble while it's charging. This is hydrogen and oxygen coming off as the water in the acid breaks down - it's an explosive mixture so allow ventilation and avoid naked flames and sparks. If it doesn't bubble, carry on charging until it does and then 2 hours more. You shouldn't need to add distilled water for such a short charge. PS have you tried charging your 'dead' battery?
