Cheaper Main Dealer Service

Hello,

I need to book my wife's 53 plate A4 FSI in for a service as it is due in the next 1000 miles or so. Had a quote from Aylesbury Audi and they want £272.01 for the cheaper of the two services.

This seems a bit high considering I am having my BMW 330i Sport serviced (inspection 1 not normal oil service) for £204 at the main dealers.

I know that with BMW if the car is over 4 years old they give a discount on the labour rates. Is there a similar thing with Audi?

I will ring Amersham Audi today as well to see what they quote. The local Audi indi is not much cheaper so its either going to be the main dealer or my local mot place that will charge about £100.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. As I said I am having both cars serviced in the same month so whatever discount I can get will make a big difference to my bank balance at the end of the month (red or orange)

Audi main dealers have hourly rates that would make a highwayman blush. In my (limited) experience the only thing you get that sets them apart is the free wash and valet. I had such big problems with my last dealer service that in the end, I got a full refund.

Your car is over 3 years old, so you don't need to maintain a warranty. The servicing tasks are nothing special and a good, trustworthy back-street place can sort it no problem. Watch out though if you have a multitronic gearbox - it needs oil changes every 40k and it is a specialised job, best trusted to an audi independent.

My concern is to the resale value of the car. It has full Audi service history up to now and I am not sure how much difference it will make to the value if i get it serviced from a back street garage. Audi specialists seem almost as expensive as the dealers so I dont see the point.

I was looking on this forum and came across a post about Staford Audi offering a service 1 for £175 on ebay. I have found the link and I am quite tempted but its over 100 miles away. Do you think my local dealer will price match?

Ok, I have just rang Amersham Audi who quoted me £370. I asked how there could be so much variation in price and mentioned the £272 at Aylesbury and the £175 at Staford. He said that they were happy to price match, I asked if he would price match Staford, he hesitated for a second then said yes.

Result!!!

Just proves its always worth asking.

What about using a VW dealer (or even Skoda / Seat) - would that impact Audi's warranty?

Windrush are one of the forum sponsors and I know that they service Audi although they are a VW Dealer- they are based where I was brought up when I was younger in Maidenhead/Slough.
