    Hi

I am new to this site and hoping someone can help me.

My windscreen wipers won't switch on but this only happens at certain times. I try the stalk on all settings (intermittent, fast, slow) but they won't work. I can pull and push the stalk to operate the jets & back windscreen and this still works but the front wipers won't.

It first happened 6 months ago but then stopped happening. It has recently started again. On the last 2 occassions it happened after I switched off the engine with the stalk set to have the wipers on (wipers working at this point), when I went back to the car about 30 mins later the wipers wouldnt work. After leaving the car, say overnight, they seem to work again.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I am thinking new switch but that is just a guess.

Apologies for the long story, I tried to keep it short

    Thanks
    Richie

    Firstly, welcome to the forum.

The problem is more than likely 1 of 2 things. Start by having a look at the wiper linkage, these are quite prone to seizing up and stopping the wiper arms from moving. If this is the problem, I believe it is possible to strip them down and free them up but I think a new linkage only costs around £40 - £50 from a dealer so may just be easier to buy a new one. If that isn't the problem then it'll probably be a faulty wiper motor, which is what happened to me. I ended up buying a new one from the VW dealer for around £80 and fitted it myself, they're not very difficult to replace if you are fairly confident doing some DIY on your car. Hopefully this will help you a bit
