upgrade an A6 03 system ?

Sorry to proberly ask a usual question but here goes.
Standard Audi concert system, on our 03 SE saloon model.

Little bit disapointed with it so what the best value upgrade i should look at best please.

Ok,
Even basic model's come with okay speakers (as long as you dont want to add a sub/amp)

I totally understand that you dont really get great quality audio out of a standard OEM head unit.

You can replace the head unit with any after market head unit. You will need to get a "blanking plate" as the Audi head unit in a A6 is slightly longer than a normal one. These are just 2 plastic bits that attach onto either side of where your head unit fits.
I believe that your A6 has standard ISO connectors if not then you may need a wiring loom adaptor but I dont think you will.
