Have an A6 with clicking from front wheel when pulling away and turning. Presume it is Outer CV joint. Is this is easy repacement to do or do I need specialist tools?

There are a few suspension links to drop off as you have the ease the hub assemble out of the way to remove the drive shaft after unbolting it from the inner CVJ. Then all the work is done in the garage and vice. This also give you the chance to clean and re-pack the inner CV joint and change the boot is looking a bit old. With the right tool 3207 or a machined down M14 bolt you can just remove the outer CVJ without removing the Drive Shaft. What model, engine code and gearbox code do you have. It is on a label in the service book and in the spare wheel bay. Regards Peter

From the picture, I can't see how it's used, but I've never done a CV joint on this car (I suspect that's "Yet")

This device screws into the the thread hole in the outer CV joint that the retaining bolt came out of, and the turned down end engages in a hole in the drive shaft and on turning further 'pops' the outer CV joint off the circlip which is on the end of the drive shaft thus enabling removal of the CVJ without removing the whole drive shaft. Look at the drawing I sent you and it will all come together. Regards Peter
