    18226 - Pressure Control Valve 2 (N216): Electrical Malfunction
    P1818 - 007 - Short to Ground - Intermittent

    Thanks

    WoW...blast from the past!

The issue was a faulty sensor on the transmission control module. However, sensor is built into the module thus u must replace complete unit. Some say you can try replacing gearbox oil to see if problem will go away but it's down to luck.

I kicked up a fuss with local dealer and wrote letters to Audi HQ on this known problem. Cut a long story short after 6 months I had the TCM replaced but after a week problem reappeared. Complained further and had the gearbox valve body replaced which finally fixed problem n gearbox is still working fine.

parts are very expensive to buy so try complaining or sell the car before it gets worse as I reached a stage where car would sit idle even though I'm accelerating for over 2mins!

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for reply J

I had the TCM repaired at ECU testing due to ' Transmission Range Sensor (F125): Implausible Signal' fault .
After installing the repaired TCM back into the gearbox the F125 fault gone but the '
18226 - Pressure Control Valve 2 (N216): Electrical Malfunction' came into picture.
So i might need to consider a valve body replacement then.
    Thanks again for your reply

    No worries

To make u feel better and confirm its most likely the valve body I had two TCM installed! Dealer installed new TCM thinking it would resolve problem but it only got worse to the point I could no longer drive the car safely on the road. I dumped the car at the dealer for over a month waiting for second TCM and valve body. They actually wanted to charge me for the repairs as car was purchased used but I told them they didnt issue quotation for my approval. Thus if you plan to invoice me you can remove all the parts and give me back my car. Manager called back like 10mins later saying free of charged and I could come pick up my car, saved easily 4G in repairs!

I did pay for the gearbox oil and installation charges for first TCM but thats a small price to pay for second TCM and valve body. Audi are aware of this problem but will not recall as it will just kill them in costs so they kill us instead Since the new valve body the gearbox has not once played up and I drive her hard every day!

    Good luck!
