I was just wondering if anyone here has had anything work in their favour when having something done to their car? It's unusual I know, normally you're just presented with a bill that takes you ages to recover from.

I've just had a new wiper motor and linkage fitted by an independent electrical specialist and when I picked the car up was greeted with these dreaded words: "We've had a bit of an accident...."
Of course, immediately I'm thinking a lorry's crashed into my car and written it off!! But it turns out they cracked the windscreen whilst taking the old wiper motor off. As a result, they fitted a new windscreen for me, free of charge. You could say "so they should", but I admire their honesty, and they couldn't apologise enough - I'm sure there are loads of backstreet garages who wouldn't have said anything, and would probably even deny any damage they might have caused if you pointed it out to them.

Last time I had my car in to VW (Bolton) was last Christmas to diagnose and fix the appropriately "lit up like a Christmas tree" dash.

As one of the wipers (which was less than 8 months old but not from VW) was smearing a little they replaced it free of charge.

I was looking for a CD changer for my A6. I already had a single CD in dash, but I thought it didn't have the CD changer controls. So in error I bought a radio/cassette on e-bay WITH the CD changer controls. But seen as I was never given the radio code with the car, I thought I may as well take it out, put the radio/cassette in and see if I can sort out a code for it.

So I went to Audi, ordered a set of mudflaps (£75) and just told them about the CD player lacking a code. They put it on their machine, and gave me the radio code for free. They even gave me a print out with the code on it for future reference.

That was Stockport Audi. Hats off to them.

And just thought I'd mention the radio/cassette has since been re-sold, I now have a 6 disc boot mounted CD changer with a single CD player in dash with the CD changer controls. Lovely!

Best of both worlds (with exception of MP3/Ipod connection I guess). CD changers are great, I have one in the Pasty but can I be bothered to change the CD's? Nope not very often. At least with a single play CD you can change it easily

Aye, I want an Ipod connection in it but the wife uses it most of the time and she has CDs, and you can have a CD changer or Ipod kit - not both unfortunately.
