    hi

i just bought my first vw golf , it was fine untill it kinda blew up on the motorway, local garage stated it was a blown turbo was to blame, after an £1110 bill , got the car back and it pulls like a train, but i have noticed my mpg seems to be a lot heaver, took it back to the garage that fitted it few months ago only to discover that it's gone into receviership, tried my local vw dealership who werent intrested because i should have gone to them for the turbo replacement.it'll be at least 2 weeks before they could look at it, if i remember,

is it possible that a vag com could help with my mpg ,anybody in cental scotland be able to help thanks

The decreased mpg may be a natural result of the new turbo. Remember that the ecu will only supply sufficient fuel in line with the airflow. Thus reduced airflow (boost) would equal reduced fuelling.

Now that you have proper airflow, the ecu is fueling properly / normally.

Also the ecu may have learnt some habits with the knackered turbo that it needs to forget. To clear the ecu's learnt values, simply disconnect the battery for a good half hour. When you re-connect, take it for a long and varied run with as many different driving conditions as possible. Also don't forget to give it some full throttle.

If that fails, you can indeed measure and observe the injected quantities with vagcom / vcds if you can find someone local.

    hi col

thanks tried the battery trick, not sure if it has made any differance, nearly cost me a speeding fine, traffic cops stopped me on the by -pass (decent guys)and told him what i was doing, he laughed stating his son has a vw and done the same trick,

i'll weight untill i fill up again and see how the mileage pans out
