    Hiya Peeps,

Any help would be very much appreciated.
I've got a mk3 golf 1.6 CL with nearly 120,000 miles on clock.
Was driving down bypass other evening, doing about 70mph- 3000 rev, pulled off at junction n heard tapets goin, pulled over looked at dip stick- not a drop of oil on it. Looked as thou oil had sprayed all over engine (was lagged)
Lucky i had some oil in boot so i could make it home.
Next morning i looked at spark plugs- removed them only to find all 4 were driping in oil!!!!!

This is the second time this has happened, both times when i was traveling at speed down by pass. Could it mean head gasket's gone?

Anyone got any ideas as to what it could be?

Check the engine breather hose, when full of gunck and with the temperatures we have had lately the gunck freezes this causes compression in the sump with the result that the oil is forced out there it shouldn't

I think you just have a blocked breather but to help you further we could do with the year and engine code.

There should be no problem removing the hose, and you can not clean it properly without removing it

Make sure the hose is not soft and remove and clean out the breather unit which is bolted to the back of the engine. Mind you they are a complete pain to clean out and it is easier to replace it but they are expensive.

caked on gunge will dissolve to an extent if you can soak the parts in a strong alkali, sodium hydroxide is ideal, you can buy it as drain cleaner in supermarkets or traffic film remover in the auto trade.

Take care the stuff burns skin and eyes and you will need to mix it strong!
