It seems that I'm plagued with problems with my A4 at the minute, and as ever, I have little or no money to get a mechanic to come out and have a look. I'm hoping someone can help me here with my problem before I start to pull my hair out

Yesterday the car was fine, but this morning she wont start! The starter motor is powered, but the engine isn't ticking over. I literally have to hold the ignition for 20 seconds and she finally fires into life. After starting her up, i switched the ignition off to test it again, and it started first time. I thought that was the end of my worries, until the same thing happened again at lunch time. I'm not sure what do to about this, as my mechanic wants a £30 call out charge and I can't afford that right now.

I haven't had any mechanical work done to the engine since Feb, so I don't think it's because of the timing, but I could be wrong. Please Help!

It sounds like you are getting air in you fuel lines, check them 1st to see if they are leaking or split.

check to make sure fuel connections to the injectors/pump are tight as this can also cause air leaks.

Problem solved. There wasn't enough diesel in the tank, even though the on-board computer stated there where 25 miles left in the tank... realistically there was less then 5. I put in £10 of diesel, which is usually 105 miles in the tank, but as soon as I filled up the computer stated there was 85 miles left.

That'll teach me for relying on that thing!
