    Hi there,

The front ashtray cigarette lighter / 12 Volt socket in my MK5 does not work.

I have checked the cigarette / 12v socket in the boot and this works fine.

Checked the fuses, swapped the fuses around for the front and rear sockets, still does not work.

The "light" in the ashtray next to the socket is working ok.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this, or how to remove the unit for a closer look and test,

    Cheers

    Rick

Hi The cigarette lighter front, rear, and the12 V socket, in the luggage compartment, run from the same fuse.Fuse 24 up to Oct 2005 and fuse 28 from Nov 2005.The light in the lighter runs from another source. You need to check if you have 12v in the lighter and you do not have to remove it to do so.If you have to replace the lighter i can send you the details on how to do it

    Hi,

Yes if you can send me the info that would be great, Ricktay@hotmail.com

    Just one other thing...

The 12 volt socket in the boot works, so as you say,, the front socket will be faulty then..

Once i get a copy of your guide i will take a look and report back,

    Cheers

    Rick

when i fitted my towbar i discovered that the 12v socket in my boot was not working, i replaced a 20amp fuse and all was well.

the socket in the front has always worked even when the fuse for the rear was blown. so i would suggest they are on seperate circuits.

Front cig lighter, rear cig lighter and the 12v socket in the luggage compartment are the 3units.From 2006 the 3 units are fused by fuse 42. Previous to this the front and rear cig lighter were fused by fuse 24 and the 12v socket in the luggage compartment was fused by fuse 26.Hope you understand this

thanks kenny, i understand better now.
Am i correct in the assumption that the rear cig lighter was supplied with the 'smoking pack'? if not where would it be located, please supply answers that cater for both with and without the centre arm rest.

    I don't have a rear socket.

    mines a 2004

EDIT - i have just been out to check the car and below the airvents on my centre armrest i have a fold down drinks holder.

It is located in the ash tray at the rear of the center arm rest. (an ashtray may be installed instead of a storage compartment) The wiring diagram does not state which model has or has not the rear cig lighter nor the 12v socket in the luggage compartment
