I have a 1997 left hand drive (Norwegian spec) 1.8 20V Automatic with air con.

After every run and the car has been sitting for a few hours there is a puddle of coolant under the rear of the engine block. I know it isnt the aircon drain as the aircon needs gassing and the water has antifreeze in it so it is definetly coolant. It seem to be coming from the area where the temperature sensors are located. Problem is that as you know there is very little space to get your hand in at the back let alone your head to have a good look!!!

Has anyone else had this problem and what gasket or parts did you order in order to fix it?

Also anyome know what the torque setting are when changing the cam cover gasket as that has a leak also.

I have the RHD and a simular thing happened to me. I thought it was the coolent until I realised that the coolent was Green, the Screenwash was Blue and the water underneath my car was Clear! Although I too needed re-gas, if it is used, the Air con/Climate Control still freezes up. Can I suggest that you use a sh*t stick in your water to seel any small pin hole in the water system and make sure your collent system has anti-freeze in it. If you put Blue ani-Freeze in the wash/wiper bottle, You will then be able to tell from the colour where it is coming from. Hope this has helped in some way and please don't think I'm patronising you, I have 3 business degrees and fealt stupid when I was told what it was. It can sometimes be Too Logical to see!
