    Hi,
I have a 2005 GT Tdi140 which has covered 47,000 miles and has just past its MOT.
I had this done at a VW dealership and though the car past the MOT I was given a "Advisory Notice"..
    This notice states the following..
"Both front console bushes starting to split but not resulting in excessive movement"..
I asked what a "Console bush" was and was told by the mechanic that in my case its both the nearside and kerbside front suspension arm rubber bushes..

I have been quoted almost £245 for this work and I would like your thoughts on the following things please.
    1. Is this a regular part that wears and are polyeurathane replacements available / advisable?
    2. I am pretty competant at DIY on cars and wonder if any specialized VW tools would be needed..... Has anyone out there done this work for themselves?
    Thanks in advance,
    Simon

Hey thanks very much for the guide..
Has any one out there tried the Polyurethane bushes??
I had a set in a Rover 220 turbo many moons ago and they definitely sharpened the steering..
I am more concerned with longevity though..
Anyone got them on the wishbones of their golf ??

    yes,

i had a service at the dealership and they advised me that the anti roll bar bushes and some other bushes were worn and they gave me an advisory and a hefty quote for work.

so i bought off ebay a pair of wishbones and i also bought these powerflex bushes, so i could fit the bushes to the spare wishbones and then do a 'quick' swap on the car, so the car was not off the road for more than a day.

I then got a 2nd opinion on the advisory from a different dealership, who, without asking, replaced the worn bushes FOC on the warranty, thus rendering the wishbones and powerflex useless.

    i sold the wishbones today.

i also have all the bolts required for bolting on the wishbones and steering rack as vw advise to renew the bolts. These are £20.

I still have all the reciepts for these items (bushes and bolts)
