    parked my mark 4 TDI golf on a hill yesterday, when returned it was at the bottom of the hill in a ditch. Handbrake still on. Since taking it to the gararge i heard from two diffrent people that this model of golf has had problems with the handbakes. Has this happed to you?

    Thats why they should teach people- when taking driving lessons- to put the car in first gear and steer the wheels towards the curb so the car does not end like yours did....Sorry to hear about your misfortune....

    We do teach people to do that! Well, I do when I teach my students. They must always put in into 1st gear when facing uphill!...(just in case this kinda thing happens) And to always put the clutch down when starting...(after they've checked the handbrake is on and in neutral gear) Just good driving practice and for safety!

    Some cars you have to be careful with leaving it in gear! The old Volvo 850 had a problem with cambelts breaking if it dropped back alittle! I had one go on my 1993 T5 estate. Thank god it was covered under warranty and Volvo put a mod on the belt.

    Sorry to hear about the car though...
