    Hello everyone,
bought a A6tdi 2.5 avant back in June, scince covered 4,000 miles, took it for a service, a week later, clouds of white smoke are coming from the exhaust. took it to my local garage, they said it was the feul pump. a new one from Andrew page was £1000, found another firm who did an exchange for £550 +VAT plus carriage, had it fitted at a cost of £816, the car has been off the road 3 weeks, got it back last Friday, on the drive home approx 45 miles, it did the same thing, clouds of white smoke.
    any ideas.
    many thanks
oh, it has covered 114,000 miles

generally white smoke dictates that unburn't fuel is entering the exhaust pipe, so maybe injector problem? Whats more concerning is that you spend £800 on a new pump that was not needed. If a pump fails then there would be a fault code showing and the car won't start. Sorry not much help.

Is the car showing any fault codes ?

A fault code read should be the first thing to do if you're totally unsure of a problem. Some diagnostic equipment such as VAG-COM or similar would be useful. For this service you could go to Audi, an independent specialist or you could see if there is a fellow forum member in your area with VAG-COM who is willing to help you. To do this, see the VAG-COM section of this forum.

As a stab in the dark I would suggest an injector problem but a fault code read may throw up some answers, and save you some money.

White smoke may also mean unburnt oil in the exhaust. See this reply:
