Hi all, I've got a 2005 2.5TDI cab which I bought 3 months ago. The rear n/s tyre had a fair bit of wear just on the outer 2" or so. Since then I've done another 4000 miles and now it's nearly bald. I've no idea if the rear wheels have been rotated from the fronts and this tyre had a bit more wear to begin with (perhaps due to steering misalignment). All the other tyres have even tread wear accros their surface.

Now there are no handling issues that I'm aware of, so can should I just buy a new tyre, or might something sinister be at work here that needs to be checked?

does the rest of the worn tyre look like it has worn evenly since you noticed the outer wear when you bought the car? this might indicate that it has been rotated.

you could go and have the suspension checked out, and get a 4 wheel tracking done? good place to start i would think.

The wear does look even. I was going to take it to a local tyre fitter but I'm not sure I could trust them to do any form of 4 wheel tracking. The car has an Audi warranty, but then again, last time I tried to invoke it I still got charged for diagnostics.

got 2 new rear tyres (falken fk452) and a four wheel track, the rears were aiming slightly to the left of the thrust angle of the front wheels, therefore increasing wear on the outside of the rear drivers wheel.

the tracking is now spot on, and the car drives much better, its even sorted out the wheel wobble i had when doing erm, over 69mph
