Hey, this is my first time to post a thread. I'm having a bit of trouble with my '02 Golf TDi (Red Di). There's thick black smoke coming out the exhaust when i cruise around 2000rpm, or if i'm accelerating hard. There's also a slight loss of power. Ive replaced the airflow meter with only a little success. There's 64k miles on the clock and i wonder if the injectors need repair.

If anybody can help please, 'cos i'm lost.

Presumably it has the 130PS ASZ engine? Has it been remapped/chipping or fitted with any sort of tuning box? Have you had it scanned for fault codes? Where did you buy the AMM from? PD injectors cannot be successfully repaired, they have to be exchanged and even then they can be a soding nightmare, even when genuine at £450 each!

Thanks for the reply, it is the 130PS engine, I didn't have it scanned for fault codes, do i need to go to a garage to do this? The previous owner had a tuning box fitted which i removed a while back. If i re-connect it now the smoke is even worse. I got the AMM from a german auto parts company in Dublin, its an exact replacement for the one i removed (although i think it may have been a reconditioned one, i got credit for returning the old one).

Non genuine AMM’s have been causing huge problems (I have replaced two very recently fitted Bosch branded units with genuine parts in the last week and it has cured the problem) so the only course of action I can suggest is to start by fitting a genuine VAG exchange unit from a VW dealer (also meaning you have to hand it back) and see how it goes. Of course, if you find that works you will not be able to give the faulty new pattern one back as it will already have gone, unless you pay the surcharge and see how it goes. You must have a fault code read done which you can do if you have a lap top and set yourself up with VAG-COM http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/index.html
