    Hello....

New to the forums and after some guidance.

I have a 2003 passat TDI 130. Over the past couple of days i've been having problems with the boot. It will not lock. Decided to have a go myself. I have managed to get to the lock mechanism and can see that there is a coil like spring which is just loose (it's not broken i don't rhink but just loose). Now at the back of the lock there are 2 cables connected to it, one is an ISO like connector and the other one the end bit is silver and it just sits in a hole on the lock.
If i disconnect the cable with the silver end from the lock, the boot will close/lock but cannot be open. I can only open it from the inside as i still have access to it from the boot (i haven't put the lining back yet). As soon as i connect that cable the lock mechanism stops functioning.

I am hoping that someone could tell me what is the functions of those cables that connect to the lock and also what the issue may be. Is it the lock mechanism itself or something wrong with that cable?

    Many thanks.

hi and welcome to the forum as above really, the problem you describe is hard to advise on, due its 'individuality' the best thing you can do really is do a search and see if someone has mentioned a fault which sounds like yours, try the fixes they used and see if that sorts the problem... if not you may have to get it into your local friendly/reliable independant for a better assesment. good luck!

    Hi There,

Just a quick message to let you know that i have the same problem and have discovered that it is the solenoid on the right hand side of the boot lid when viewing the boot from the back end of the car. I think you will find that it is stuck on constantly so it is pulling on the cable release constantly so the locking mechanism is actuated all the time...A new soleniod from VW dealers is about £15 and to have it fitted is about £50 all in i think.

    Regards,

    John F

Many Thanks NinjaJohn..I think that you are spot on with the diagnosis. Does it need to go to the dealer or is this something i can change myself?

I changed the solinoid in my estate in about half an hour. It's a really easy job. The replacement solinoid I recieved didn't come with the click on plastic adapter on the end to connect to the locking mechanism - so make sure you don't throw the old one away!

The solenoid is located on the locking mechanism on the boot lid. It is a squarish white thing with a piston coming from it.
