Really need help with this one.

I was having problems with my boot sometimes not closing, or sometimes it wouldn't open.

On reading the forums I figured it was the boot catch actuator, so I got the part from Audi and decided to fit it myself. Started today, had a pig of a job getting the trim even partly off- got all screws off, pulled hard, got two panel clips to pop, couldn't get any more. So panel hanging down, decided to press on anyway as I could access the actuator by holding panel down.

I got the actuator changed but the problem I have is with the control rod- when I removed the actuator the rod fell out, and I don't know how it goes back on. I spent several hours this afternoon trying it this way and that, but when I get it on and try the catch, the rod falls off from either the boot catch end or the actuator end.

Has anyone fitted this and has any photos, or good instructions?

Any help appreciated. Sanity at stake!

Panic over, I looked at it again this morning and managed to figure it out!

Turns out I needed to put the plastic clip on the other way round, as well as turning the part on the actuator that the rod attaches to.

If anyone is interested I'll make a post about this in the 'how to' section.

I also managed to replace my clutch switch yesterday. Replacing it means my cruise control is working again. I'll do a 'how to ' for this as well.
    Cheers.

    Hey Leigh,

Glad the clutch switch fixed your cruise!!

How funny, the weekend after I did your scan was on my way down to Dunfermline and tried to switch my cruise on and it didn't work!!! Think my switch is on it's way out too, but it works now so I'll have to wait for it to stop before I can get Vag-Com on to figure out which it is!!

    Hope all is well

    Hi Paul

Thanks for the reply, and thanks again for the Vagcom scan- you pointed me in the right direction about the cruise control problem. All working fine now I've replaced the switch. Dead easy job to do (apart from lying on your back like a contortionist in the driver footwell).
I'll try and post both jobs in the 'how to' section- I think both faults are quite common.

The actuator switch for the boot catch was an absolute pig of a job, but it has made a difference to the boot catch operation, much smoother opening now. Time will tell- the original fault was very intermittent.

Still got the funny indicator fault, but so intermittent it's barely a problem. I'll put up with it until it gets worse.

On holiday from work just now- great weather for working on your car!

    Cheers,

    Leigh.
