    Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone knew of an Audi Specialist in the Reading area, that's honest and not going to break the bank.

I've been taking my Audi to the local garage in Henley on Thames for the last few years, but the bills are getting steeper recently. Just had a bill for £520 for a basic service and 2 CV gaiters fitted. Does that sound steep?

Thanks for any help you can give.
    Cheers,
    Mark.

I've been very happy for a number of years with Harper Motors (google them) in Maidenhead having had some bad and expensive experiences with a main dealer. He's looked two of the family Passats and a Fabia vRS and a company Galaxy (TDi). They also fixed a problem with my neighbour's Golf TDi that evaded the main dealer's best efforts. Prices are very reasonable ( for the Valley!) and the boss is the guy who looks after your car - a rarity these days! If you specifically want Audi specialism you could try the Autopool in Iver - add 20 minutes from Maidenhead.

    Hi Neil,
thanks for your response. It's worth knowing that. The place I go to charges £55 an hour, which sounds reasonable, but they make sure they work on the car for a few hours to get the bill up. They charged me £170 for a new battery last year!
    Cheers,
    Mark.

If you want to save some money, you could buy a Haynes manual for your car and do it yourself. The manuals are very good and in detail. Why pay someone £55p/hour, when if you do it yourself, you could save that money + VAT. Changing a battery should be relatively straightforward. Its the credit crunch remember...........

Nice thought, but don't have much time (family and work commitments) and mechanics is not my strong point.

Same here, you just need to prioritise and reserve some time on the weekend to DIY. I change the engine oil and filter on my Polo and it only takes me 1 hour of my time. Buying the parts directly from a wholesaler will also save you a fortune.

Slightly past Maidenhead in Slough, but all the expertise of the main dealers, but a great dealer cheaper, I would recommend AVIT: http://a-v-i-t.co.uk/default.aspx

The guys there are really friendly and full of knowledge and use OEM parts

Just some feedback on Windrush VW Service centre in Maidenhead - I took my Mk5 VW Golf in to them which was under the Windrush approved used warrenty programe when a fault light appeared. I was presented with a charge of over £300 to fix the faulty air bag wiring loom as it was 'not covered by warrenty', more frustratingly when I politely declined the work to be complete they charged me £60 for the diagnotic - nothing was covered by warrenty, and the manager @ Windrush was not helpful and defered me to head office if I did not accept this charge. Poor customer service indeed.

I was really disappointed with the service, lack of explanation of the limitations on the warrenty both when purchasing and when taking it in for repair. Even better was the fact that when found out it was the wiring loom I found a fix listed online which took me less than 1 hour to fix & cost nothing more than some bell wire and crimps to exend the OEM cables - all fixed.

I would not go back to Windrush after this experience.
