    I have an 04 Sharan on a 53 plate. 80k miles 1.9 TDi PD
Yesterday morning I drove 200 miles or so with no problem. Then in the afternoon I got back in the car and I had no speedo or indicators. The ABS light was on and the brake warning light flashes. I found that fuse #3 was blown so I replaced it (with another 5A fuse) with blew as soon as I switched on the ignition.
Looking at the fuse card, there appears to be a lot of equipment 'hung' off of this fuse so my 1st question is should this fuse really be 5A (not 25).

My 2nd question assuming I am not trying to replace a seriously underrated fuse is has anybody come across a similar problem on a VW as this?
F.Y.I. The horn doesn't work (my fuse card says it's on a completely different fuse). The rear heater doesn't work, neither does the AC or air recirculation. I have taken out the dash pod (removed the 2 connectors to isolate), I have dis-connected the indicators at the stalk, I have isolated the AC switch, recirculation switch and the rear heater switch, but the fuse still blows. I have also isolated the ABS servo (just in case).
It’s not a problem with an indicator bulb as the hazards still work, as do all of the other lights.
Theres not much I haven't dis-connected but there is obviously something I'm missing. What?

in all honesty,in times like this,i feel your best option would be to take it to a reliable independant garage. they have much more experience/diagnostic
ability to source the problem quickly. their are good ones out there who won't take your eyes out,and you will come away with the car being the way it should be,without loosing the hair line
it could be anything, leave it to the experts,
    regards,
    stewy.

Yep, it spent most of yesterday in my regular independent garage. They spoke to 2 vehicle electricians (one came to see if he could find the fault) but no joy.
I have now booked it in with my local dealership to see if they can sort it without me having to re-mortgage

i have just had a quick look through a wiring diagram and that fuse also feeds the number plate lights......only a guess but check the wiring in the tailgate ...........

according to my wiring diagram the horn is fed from fuse s6 25 amp and not fuse s3 5 amp

    Hi There,

I'm new to this forum. Have had a 2003 (53) Sharan Carat 130bhp for a few months now.

I have been having this exact same problem. Did anybody find a solution for it please?

    Thanks for any advice.

    John
