    I have a 54 Plate Polo 1.4 TDI 3 door.

Problem: Every so often the Engine Management warning light comes on and the engine loses power at the top end .

The problem usually disappears once the ignition has been switched off and the car has been left for a while, sometimes longer than others.

Garage ran it through diagnostics and mechanic took it for a test drive but found no evidence of a fault.

Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone experienced the same problem?

    Hi!

Tried changing the Air Mass Meter? Alot of cars with TDI engines are experiencing the same kind of problem. It seems to be especially common on 98-02 models.

e.g take a look in the upper most section here for some statements:

My '03 Polo Playa 1.4Tdi does the same thing but only when it's still cold and while putting a lot of power down like on an uphill climb. Tell you what, it is dead as a doornail then!!
It must have something to do with the turbo being starved of oil as it's still cold...

When this fault occurs does it feel like the car is running rough i.e only running on 2 cylinders???
