I'm currently working on an A4 2001 1.9TDi for a friend and the heater motor has started to cause problems. This started approx. a year ago when you would press the Climate Control buttons and hope! If it started you were good for the rest of your journey but if it didn't then the opposite. I've had a look at the heater unit and found 4 wires
    1/ Thick brown = Ground
2/ Thick dual colour (soory not got car here)= Constant +ve
3/ Thin cable= varies with fan speed
4/ Thin cable 0v when Ignition on 11V ignition off and varies between these?
On plugging in the unit wait 3-4 secs. and your away, fan runs as it should but then stops. This maybe take 2-10 secs. but nothing has changed on the cables but that's it,nothing no matter what you do, turn off ignition wait and turn back on nothing. BUT unplug the heater motor and try agian and Hey Presto your working again but only for the same period. I have put this down to the motor and purchased 1 from Fleabay put it in and all is the same.
Pls can someone help me with this I'm trying to fix this for a dear friend who is currently extremely ill. All help greatly appreciated.
    Wayne

Did you replace the fresh air blower control unit, did it come with the new motor,if not, i think it is it, that is the cause of your problem. If you have replaced it together with the motor, then your fault is with the climate control unit.

    Hi Kenney
    Thanks for your reply.
I changed the motor complete as a one piece part. This blower has a 8E2 prfix part no. and I was under the impression the control unit you talk of,was part of the blower motor itself, if not could you tell me where I might find this.

On this model the control unit -J126 is installed in fresh-air blower -V2 and cannot be replaced separately. Have you had a fault code read?

    Thanks again Kenney.
I've found out today that a fault code was reset by a friend of his sometime ago but I don't know what code this was. It removed the code from the display but obiviously didn't cure the problem. I take it the =J126 you refer to and the V2 part was what was known as the resistor control of old.
Thanks again, I'm off to the car again tomorrow and I'll have a good look round for this control unit.
