    Hi guys

Using a mates vag-com 409.1 and cable he got from ebay (that seems to convert the usb to serial) to attempt to reset the throttle body on a 1998 MkIV Golf.

When I try to do the throttle body allignment, as detailed on the ross-tech site (Using group 098 as 060 doesn't exist), it either says ERROR immediately or comes up ADP RUN for 10 secs then says ERROR.

I'm getting really frustrated with it so hope someone can help.

The thoughts I've had on it are

    1) The sample rate is usually about 1.3 - is this too low?
    2) The following DTC comes up every now and again:
    00282 Throttle Position Actuator
Not sure what it means but I clear it before trying the adaption
    and it still doesn't work.
    3) Do I need to login (11) perhaps?

Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated

    Andy

I would try taking the TB off the car and giving it a good clean with carb cleaner to get all the carbon out (Taking care not th scratch it) then put it back together and try agian.

It could be the TB is actually knackered, and thats why you get the error code and the alighment doesnt work.

I think I'm gonna try to concentrate on understanding the DTC.. It actually says
    00282 - Throttle Position Actuator (V60)
    26-00 - Output Open

Can anyone shed some light on what the "output open" part means?

    Cheers

The ECU can sense the actuator's internal resistance. When it reports that the output is open, it means that it does not find a valid value for the actuator. The actuator is a winding with finite resistance - I don't know the value on your car. Either you have an open connection, the actuator has failed, or the sensing circuit in the ECU has failed.

You can see other symptoms related to this fault code on the Ross-Tech wiki
