My Passat B6 1.9 tdi S is still under warranty ( until August) and just the other day I noticed the side repeater not working -- simple job -- does anyone know how to get at the light bulb ( a LED I,d guess) or should I go to VW -- Where can I get W/shop manuals for these DIY type of jobs?? THANKS XXX

It's a fairly straightforward job to replace the led, remove the mirror cap(it'll be tight but, don't be afraid to give it some strong pull upwards) then you need to remove the little torx screws to move the mechanism out of the way which allows access to the torx screws securing the led.

Once you've done it once its a 20 minute job. I think a new led is about 18 quid from VW?

One of mine failed, and since the car is still under warranty like yours, I had it replaced FOC by the VW dealer. I suggest you go to VW and save yourself some trouble and cash.

Regarding a manual, I got one on CD on eBay from one of the regular advertisers. From memory it cost less than £5 including postage. It seems to be the same software used by VW, and though some parts don't function (for example, and not surprisingly, the internet link back to the factory), there is lots of very useful stuff there. Took a bit of time and care to get it installed on my PC, but worth the trouble.

Mike, I suppose you don't happen to have the link for that?

-just checked, and the manual on CD is still being advertised on eBay. £3.99 plus £2 postage. If you search for "VW Passat repair workshop manual CD" you will find it. Alternatively look for item number 140233575655.
