    hi i was wondering if someone could help me, i have a golf 1.6 1999 mk4, the drive shaft went about a month ago, i took it to my local garage they fixed it putting a new boot on but ever since then its been makin a weird whirling noise from where the drive shaft is, it gets loader as i pick up speed? then few days ago it went again, i took it bck he fixed it for free, i got the car back today after my work and 3 hours later its happened again!! i dunno how it keeps happening does any1 know whats causing this? would be alot of help thanx

    The wheel bearing has failed, it due to carelessness on their part (possibly due to them not correctly tightening the centre nut) but then again it does happen anyway on the Golf 4 platform when you remove the shafts, it is one of those things with this platform.

    thanks alot iv been looking at another thread similer to mines about the whirling sound after the drive shaft was replaced, saying ill have to get a genuine VW cv boot connected? im going to see about the wheel bearing aswell as you have said and see what the how that is, hopefully that solves the problum thanx
