    Hi,

This is my 1st post and hope somebody can help.

I have an A4 2.8Q 1998 and the brake bulb failure indicator on the dash indicates a bulb failure. I have replaced both bulbs with Osram and other brands, but the indicator stays illuminated even though the bulbs work ok.

Does anybody know what the problem is?

    Many thanks,

Are these original Audi bulbs? Any others may not work well or will work for only a short time before going bad.

Try cleaning every bulb holder on both sides of the car.

Check to ensure that you have the correct bulb in the correct position, remember there are fog lights and if you have had the bulbs you may have them mixed up?

If you are sure you have the right bulbs in the right place, try removing one of the battery terminals for 30 secs.

Have you checked the high level brake light? Its most likely a fault with the lights, a burnt out bulb or additional light fitted, the light detection system works by knowing what power the lights should normaly use, if too much power is being used, ie extra brake light, or too little, blown or incorrect bulb, the system thinks a light is out, using LED bulbs can put the light on too, as can incorrectly fitted towbar wiring, a special relay has to be used on vehicles with light failure detection systems, an intermittent fault also has the effect, have someone press the brake pedal and tap the lights to see if the light goes off and on, could be a loose connection or faulty bulb.
