Thanks very much to all who haven given info on how to solve water in front passanger footwell. I have just finished draining my A6. The procedure is water coming down from behind the glove box in three different places. Starts as soon as it rains. At back of engine compartment remove rubber piping which runs from left to right just in front of battery box. Remove battery box cover. Pull lump of plastic covering the battery etc off right across the front below windscreen. On mine just a pull/push fit. Remove battery. One bolt on left as you look at battery. Could not see this bolt to begin with because water was way up over this level. To get rid of most of water use 4 foot long piece of pipe and syphon the water out, drained for almost 5 minutes. Along the front of the steel bulkhead remove the clips and pipe for air con I asume. It says on mine make sure you dont bend it which you can only read once the pipe is off. Have to pull and manipulate off three clips in all. Take off battery vent. Remove negative connection first and then positive. Remove battery very heavy get help if you can. First drain about one third along width of car difficult to see because of pipes & mucky water. Stick finger down hole and rest of water pours out. Put hand under the servo unit I think in base of compartment to the left and find second drain hole about one third in from other side, again stick finger down hole and to remove rubbish. My wife & I cleaned the side of the bonnet, each side between the hinges and the wings to remove the build up of leaves and rubbish to stop this getting into the drain holes. There was a loads for leaves etc. Swilled out with watering can to remove little bits of rubbish, being very careful not to get water on anything else. Poked out holes again just to make sure all clear. Little bits already stuck in drains. Refitted everything in reverse order. All now back together waiting for it to rain to make sure I have cured the problem. When refitting the battery bolt I was unable to get my hand in to start it off. Not having magnetic sockets I put grease on the bolt head to hold the bolt in the socket and extension. Also make sure the rubber washer on the back of the battery bracket is aligned as this also stops the bolt going home. I think thats all if its any help to anyone. I took about 4 hours, and that was with my wife doing lots of the cleaning (much better than me at it) and never having done any work on an Audi before.Take it slow and watch what your doing. By the way the reason the drain holes block so easily is that they are tapered, how daft is that?

They are tapered/fluted bungs to stop engine fumes entering the plenum chamber and being sucked in via the potten filter in to the car. I exercise these bungs when I wash the car by ensuring a free flow of water either side of the G/B from the bungs left in place. It is amazing that block bungs can hold back so much water.
