    I just bought this Audi 80 SE Auto Estate 1.8 1997, every now and then when i try to start it , it runs for a couple of seconds then stops, can anyone help me please as i really love everything else about this car, thanks

    If it starts up without any problems, it sounds like the immobiliser isn't disengaging. Make sure all your door/boot/bonnet are firmly shut then lock and unlock the car. When you lock the car you should hear a horn beep once.

    Hopefully that might work but if it doesn't, there must be someone on here with plenty more experience and knowledge about these than me.

    Most likely the ignition barrel 'reader coil'.

    thanks all, but i think i put this in the wrong section, it's an A4 i've got not an 80 (twerp!!!).

    have you found out what the problem is, and more importantly have you found a cure. i'm having similar problems.
