My local Audi servicing manager gave me the following advice to keep costs/problems away. Hint 1 - When you change the cam belt also replce the water pump (about £60) as it run on the cam belt and if the Wpump fails (which they do) it usually causes the cam belt to jump and wreck the engine. Hint 2 - most suspension failures are on cars that rarely/never use the offroad susp setting as the susp seems to dry out and fail if not used to its full range of movement - a bit like yoga keeping your joints in fine condition!

I couldn't agree more crashburnfly.Seems a no brainer to change the water pump especially as cambelt changes are every 80k.That's quite a long interval.
Have you had any problems with Allroads???

Hi, I own a 2001 allroad and take very well care of the car. After 150000 km the compressor broke and now the car drops wenn left on level 2 within 3 hours all the way down The comprssor costs 1000 euro to replace.

Don't get me wrong I love my allroad it drives like no other car but...

tyhe sus[entions is troublesome. Keep the airstuds clean! Leaks do not come from the rubber airbags but from the metal stud it moves in. So remove dirt sheak for leaks (water and soap spray) and if there is al leak solve it otherwise your comprssor will die

kind regards Bas (Hulst, The Netherlands)

Also consider the idler pulley on the 2.5TDI engine. Mine disintegrated at 180,000miles. So i think this needs to be changed at evey 2nd cam belt swap. Luckily the cbelt did not snap!
When I got rid of the car it had done 248,000 miles, and had a set of cams at 180,000 as well as the idler pully. I never ever put in any oil between services. Having read a few posts on the subject of cam wear I wonder if Audi ever bothered to cure the problem?
