Hi there newbie looking for some help. My t5 2.5tdi 130 tip 2005 cut out today at 70 mph in the outside lane. First felt steering go heavy, managed to pull into side. Only battery light on, rev counter at zero. Tried to start it, turned over very sluggish but when it caught it filled the carriage way with thick white smoke. Left it for a sec and tried again same sluggish start but fired and horrible diesel knock same white smoke but started to rise revs on its own till i killed ignition. Now will not turn as feels like it has hydraulic locked.
Called Rac out to tow home / garage. I am thinking along the lines that an injector has failed dumping fuel straight into a pot hence the smoke and reluctance to turn over.
Vechile has full vag history last serviced by them at 114k now has 120k i had the fuel filter changed and diesel magic ran though last week [link here???]
Any thoughts pls and how hard / what is required to change the injector

    Thanks to all in anticipation

Hi mate sounds very like your turbocharger has let go.The smoke you see will be engine oil leaked in through the turbo straight into the engine hence the increasing engine speed without touching the throttle. The intake pipes can be removed to check for engine oil ingress. Also just make sure the engine hasn't been overfilled with oil as well.

Hi there thanks for the speedy reply, I must admit I thought turbo or head gasket. But water level fine hoses not pressurised, oil level checked last friday spot on and after it stopped and cooled same level, all intercooler pipes ok no oil ingress to be seen.
Concern regarding its reluctance to turn over , leading me to think pot full of fuel and will not allow it to turn ????????????

    Thanks again

Hi there, Update got a copy of elsa printed from the garage and put front into service position to allow us to get at inlet manifold. Needs to come off to remove rocker cover, deduced injectors under here and elsa confirms.
On dropping inlet manifold cylinders 3 and 4 from left poured out what must be diesel and oil mix?? When van originally stopped i checked the oil and i was sure it was on the level ok, checking today its definately got diesel in it and the level is up. Could this be from the cylinders being full and draining past the rings over night???
Due back at the garage tomorrow to remove injectors, can these be tested out of the vechile? [operated by cam and ecu] is there anything else i am missing and whaat should i look for / test for.

    Thanks again

It is very likely the tandem pump has a defect allowing the diesel to enter the cylinder head and contaminate your oil. This would be the most common cause.I haven't experienced the injectors fail in such a manor.Cheers

Hi vwg, Thanks again for your posts, Is there anyway you can see if the tandem pump has failed or test it. Further update made a slide tool to remove the injectors all came out easier than i thought, being an auto do you know how you can turn the engine over without removing the starter motor [to align cams on refit]
mixed views from the trade on if you can test the injectors but found a good guy nearby has bosch rig and will give me the results tomorrow on all five. Also ordered the injector seal kits as another diesel expert believed that the injector cleaner ran through the new fuel filter last week could of cleaned the bottom oring allowing diesel to flow straight into the cylinder on cranking. Could explain thick white smoke excess fuel incorrect timing and having removed the injectors when we spun the engine over diesel flew out of the cylinders.

I know i'm pining my colours to the mast with injectors and why should 5 fail or even 2. But unsure what else to look at and how to test.
Pls keep the suggestions coming and i will update and take on board any help.

    Thanks again
