    Afternoon all,
As it's my first post I'll start off by saying I have recently become the proud owner of an 'M' Reg GTI 8v (73k ADY engine). For the money I paid gotta say I'm chuffed with it. Needs a bit of tlc and has the usual irratic idle and cold cut-out problem but I've read about things I can do to address that.
My mate and I are going to change the cambelt ourselves next week, he is experienced at such things having built MK2's from scratch but I was wondering if there was anything in particular we should be aware of before going for it?
    Much appreciated.

It is the same as doing an 8v Golf 2 but you will need VAG-COM to check the distributor position.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have bought a VAG COM cable but it is OBD2 I think but is my car OBD1? Where can I get a converter from any ideas?

    Cheers again.

An ADY should have the 16 pin plug behind the cover above the cig lighter, I can't remember ever seeing an ADY with the 2x2 plug. Are you sure it is ADY and not 2E?

I think you will find that will not work, other people have tried that. You need a USB cable.
