    Hi Guys
I have an Audi a3 1.8. bought it from a dealer and now the dealer is closed down hence no warranty...

    Problems with the car.
    • Dosent start properly unless i press the acceletor for about one second immidiatly after turning the ignition. If I dont rev to about 3000 rpm immidiatly then the epc light comes on.
    • When driving I feel a loss of power and the revs keep on jumping up and down.
    • EPC and ESP light comes on every now and then and at this time the car stalls and also the battery light comes on. This normally happesn then waiting a long time in traffic.
    • lately the car just dosent want to move ie i have to rave at about 4000 rpm and some times even more at all gears to get up to speed with the traffic. overtacking is imopossible as there is no power.
Have taken it to audi dealer in and have got a quote for £750 to change the ecu. but they are not sure if the ecu is faulty or not.

Any ideas as to what might be faulty from the above symptoms.
Thanks alot for reading and helping out.

    HI guys

seems like my problem is not unique.

I took the car to a german car specialist and found that there was a clutch slipping thus lots of rev and no speed. that solves one problem for 400 pounds but the EPC light and rev needle is still eratic and lots of time the engine cuts as you slow in a turn.

Some one must have faces similar issues. Please help.

May seem like an obvious question, but have you had the car plugged in to a diagnostic machine??

    Hi Revo

Thanks for looking in. Yes took it to audi and another german car dealer. I will get the paperwork from home and tell you the codes. The thing is that nither of the tests show any definate fault.

However Audi dealers said that it seems like the ECU is faulty. it seems and they want me to spend £ 750 for the probability. That is alot of money for me. Cant afford that much and then find out that it was not faulty

will put the codes later in the evening.

    thanks again

have you managed to sort this yet?

It sounds like the drive by wire pedal is not communicating with the throttle body..

I think it might be your throttle body. I had problems too, where my car was stalling in traffic. I had the throttle body cleaned out and it hasn't stalled since. However, if you do clean out your throttle body, make sure you get it electronically recalibrated. Mine wasn't and it took the car over a month to sort itself back to the norm.

The ******** are getting worse these days. I've just had to replace a wheel bearing. I got a local chap to do mine because I know he's really good. Audi told massive porkies and tried to get me to book my car in to replace my differential... I got a service engineer to check my car out and he told me it was just the wheel bearing. Dealers trying their luck once again...

The problem you have (had?) in starting your car was also happening in mine. It too has ceased since my throttle body was cleaned out.

Check the throttle body. Might be worth a try...you never know. You can test it by manually moving the throttle body whilst the car is running. Watch your fingers though...moving parts! If it sticks you should actually be able to see it if it's revving around 3,000 RPM. If you can't see it sticking I would think it's something else, like your ECU.

    hi
    sorry for delaying my response.

I have done some cleaning to the MAF and that seems to sort the problem.

I couldnt remove the MAF(it has some stupid security screws with 5 spokes) so I removed the air intake tube that holds the MAF and used a vasume cleaner on both sides. Sorted..!!!!!!!!!

    • Car starts like new
    • Revs on idel are back to 750 rpm
    • No EPC light
    • No ABS light
If it wasnt for this forum support I would have paid to change the ECU to audi garage and then driven out with £ 750 short in my pocket and also returned to them for more wrong diognostics and shell out more money.

I think you are right about the audi garage. I think there aim is to get maximum money out in the shortest time possible and make you return for some more.

This forum and all the supporters rock thanks to all
