Avant boot light - how do you get it out??

Does anyone know how to remove the courtesy boot light on an A4 Avant?? Its the light on the inside base of the boot door that comes on when you open the boot.

Does it come out without having to replace the boot trim??

Hi, you can prise the boot light out with a small flat bladed screw driver and then pull it with your fingers but be careful as the two small metal clips catch your fingers every time and it hurts!!, be careful against the boot trim but this seems the only way to remove it, hope this helps..

Thanks - will give it a shot. Does it come out downwards or inwards?

With the boot lid open it will come out downwards from the red part of the light

**Ignore this - see next post** Ok - have tried to prise it out and I'm afraid something is going to break! With the boot open the red part faces me and the clear part faces the ground. Where should I start to prise it out from?

Actually - scratch that. I managed to get it out by sliding a thin knife along the back of the white edge and prising it away enough to get the knife down the back and then the light popped out.

Having got the light out I can see the two metal clips at either end of the red side and I guess the proper way is to use a very thin screwdriver to press these inwards and then the unit should just rotate downwards.

Interesting point I also found on the bulb (C5 festoon type) - the bulb I took out was an Osram 12v/6W "minixen n3c" and I replaced it with a generic 12v/5W one from a Halfords kit that I had from a previous car. It works but the new bulb is loose in the fitting. Not ideal and so I guess I should get hold of several of the Osram type in case any other interior lights go - however, can't find anything matching it on Google
