    hi

looking for advice... should all old shape match's have a passenger airbag switch to turn it off (like it says in the manual) or was that an optional extra?

I think it's an optional extra. My friend's Match doesn't have the light on the dashboard above the stereo, certainly.
    2002 Polo 9n 1.2 65PS. Basic but it's better than the train!

Pretty sure that it wasn't standard equipment - my 2007 GTi doesn't have it anyway.

If you have it, it's meant to be in the glovebox. There's a rectangular vertical plastic blank on the right hand side where it should be if you have it fitted...
